Push notifications ensure that attendees using iOS (iPhones, iPads, etc) and Android devices will get your alerts and updates, even if they don't have the app open when you send them out. However, it's good to keep the following in mind:
- These users will have to have already downloaded the EventMobi app, Custom Branded App, or Custom Branded Events Page from their respective app stores before your alert was scheduled to go out.
- Users will be prompted to grant or deny permission to send them push notifications. They will not receive push notifications if they deny the app this permission. Permission can be granted later via their device's settings.
- Push notifications are sent to all iOS and Android users who have downloaded the EventMobi app, Custom Branded App, or Custom Branded Events Page from the app store. You cannot send targeted alerts as push notifications at this time.
Because attendees can opt out of push notifications, it's not a bad idea to send an accompanying email with your alert, which you can do within the Alerts module.
WHERE DO ATTENDEES SEE THE ALERT?
EventMobi alerts appear as a pop-up when the attendee opens the app, and they continue to appear in the Event Feed at the top of the app thereafter. This ensures that your attendees acknowledge the alert to continue using the app.
If you have sent a targeted alert, the attendees in the groups you've targeted will have to log in with their emails to see the alert intended for them.
Push notifications are displayed to attendees who have agreed to receive them. Notifications are shown in the system’s style when the app is closed or another app is active.
HOW CAN I SEND A PUSH NOTIFICATION TO iOS AND ANDROID USERS?
To send a push notification with your alert to iOS and Android users who have downloaded the EventMobi app or a Custom Branded App, toggle the Send Native Push Notification setting to YES. Keep in mind that this option will disappear if you try to select targeted groups because push notifications are not compatible with alert-targeting at this time.
HOW CAN I SEND A PUSH NOTIFICATION TO USERS WHO HAVEN'T DOWNLOADED THE APP FROM AN APP STORE?
Push notifications will not be available to users who have not downloaded the EventMobi app or a Custom Branded App from the Apple App Store or Google Play. However, people do usually have push notifications enabled for the email accounts associated with their devices, so you can achieve the same effect indirectly by sending an accompanying email with your alert. This will elicit a push notification for anyone who has them enabled on their inbox.
To send an accompanying email with your alert, switch the Send Alert by Email toggle to YES. The alert will also go out as an email to anyone in the Attendees listing with a valid email.
